NC Honey Festival

Downtown Whiteville is abuzz each September with the North Carolina Honey Festival. The festival is a fun way to recognize the importance of honey bees, a vital component to the world’s food supply.

People swarmed the inaugural festival in 2017 and it has continued to grow with a great mix of bee exhibits, honey bee product vendors, food vendors and a mead garden at The Chef and The Frog Restaurant. For the uninitiated, mead is wine made from honey instead of grapes. The day always begins with a 5k run in downtown before the festival, and for those who wish to come in a night early, there is a charity pancake supper on Friday night.

Whiteville is a bee-utiful location for the festival and is one of only a few North Carolina cities to have “Bee City” status for bee-friendly environmental and agricultural practices. The work of the humble honey bee affects us all and is worthy of a celebration, so make a bee line to Whiteville and Columbus County this September.
