NC Yam Festival

The sweet potato takes center stage at the North Carolina Yam Festival at Tabor City, held annually the fourth weekend of October since 1986 in this southern Columbus County town near the South Carolina border.
 
Everyone has a yam good time with plenty to see and do, ranging from the festival parade to historical reenactments to a talent show to the Rockin’ Sockin’ Street Dance to a potato crafts show. The local high school, South Columbus, plays its annual Yam Bowl on Friday night, with the winning team receiving the coveted Yam Bowl Trophy.
